Motherland Language & Culture Experience for Children of Ethnic Koreans in Germany
- Goals
- A. Cultivation of their affinity with motherland language & culture.
- B. Upgrading pride and identity of Korean people.
- C. Mutual cooperation and growth through human network with motherland.
- D. Contribution to international exchange in response to the global era.
- Specifics of Program
- A. Korean lessons (4 hours a day and total 80 hours).
- B. Education in traditional culture of motherland such as classical Korean music, taekwondo, and calligraphy.
- C. Excursions to historical sites and scenic attractions.
- Expected Effects
- A. It lets young ethnic Koreans break out of language cramming to have natural language acquisition in daily life mixed with cultural experience.
- B. It helps youths here and abroad establish close ethnic solidarity and take it as a strategy for survival in the global era.
- C. It lets youth here and abroad form mutual exchange and thereby foster a wide view for leading the global era.
- D. It ensures that youths here and abroad establish the identity of Korean people and boost their pride in the national culture.
- Period
- Considering the different school breaks for states of Germany, the program is divided into the three 4-week sessions as below.
- (1) 1st session: Mon., Jun. 25 through Fri., Jul. 20, 2007.
- (2) 2nd session: Mon., Jul. 23 through Fri., Aug. 17, 2007.
- (3) 3rd session: Mon., Jul. 30 through Fri., Aug. 24, 2007.
- Eligibility
- Young ethnic Koreans who live in Germany and are 15 or older.
- Required No. of Students
- Each term requires 20 persons, and fewer applicants should cancel the program.
- Participation Fee
- 950,000 won (tuition of 550,000 won and dormitory and meal fee of 400,000 won).
- Application for Participation
- A. Application period: Mon., Mar. 18 through Fri., May 4, 2007.
- B. An applicant may use the application form loaded on the IILE homepage (http://lei.kongju.ac.kr) to apply online or email the form to IILE.

- C. Immediately following the application deadline, IILE will notify the applicant by e-mail whether the person will participate or not.
- D. An applicant who is notified of his or her eligibility shall pay a fee online within the registration period.
- Payment of Participation Fee
- A. Payment period: Mon., May 14 through Thu., May 17, 2007.
- B. Amount to be paid: 950,000 won.
- C. Transfer to: Nonghyup 451-01-008567 (공주대학교 'KNU').
- Designation of round-trip flights
- Since IILE is going to designate a two-way flight to save participants' air fare and to promote their convenience in mobility between Incheon Airport and KNU, applicants are advised to use the flight (a designated flight is to be notified to an applicant by e-mail as final admission is sent out).
- Transportation between Incheon Airport and KNU
- A. Group mobility
- If an applicant arrives through the designated flight, the person is moved to KNU by a chartered bus, and for departure after course completion, a chartered bus will take the person to Incheon Airport (bus fare: 30,000 won per person for two-way rides).
- B. Individual Mobility
- In case you are arriving on other flights than designated ones, you are advised to choose public transit as below.
- (1) From Arrivals of Incheon Airport, go to Bus Stop No. 4 and get on Limousine Bus 6000 and get off for Express Bus Terminal (takes 75 minutes and 7,500 won).
- (2) At Gyeongbu Line platform of Express Bus Terminal, get on Gongju-bound bus and get off for Gongju Terminal (taking 2 hours and 7,500 won).
- (3) From Gongju Terminal, take a taxi and arrive at KNU Dormitory (taking 5 minutes and 1,800 won).
- Others
- A. IILE will e-mail admission only to the person who has paid a participation fee during the payment period.
- B. Check-in at the dorm will begin on Sun., Jun. 24 (for the 1st session), Sun., Jul. 22 (for the 2nd session), and Sun., Jul. 29 (for the 3rd session). Participants must check into the dorm no later than Mon., Jun. 25 for the 1st session, Mon., Jul. 23 for the 2nd session, and Mon., Jul. 30 for the 3rd session.(Strongly encouraged to take designated flights)
